HP takes print away from town for seven days, laughs at 'print is dead' claim (updated)

Image

With e-books and digital subscription of magazines and newspapers becoming the new hot, many are sending off the message that print is gradually losing or has even already lost to its digital counterpart, while others argue that print is far from dead. Needless to say, being one of the leading manufacturers of printers, HP took the "print is dead" claim quite personally -- and perhaps too literally. How so? Well, the company commissioned a project that got participants in the US, India and Singapore to live without printed materials -- including newspapers, books, labels, packaging, ID cards and even some clothes -- for two days. Needless to say, those folks struggled really badly, but HP certainly proved that "the role of print is vastly underestimated" and that "true print deprivation was impossible."

If you think that's an overkill, just you wait: HP and renowned photographer Chase Jarvis even went as far as getting a Wisconsin town called Spring Green to undergo a similar experiment, but for a duration of seven days. The entire project will be presented in a video documentary called 7 Days Without Print, and ahead of its premiere at Guggenheim Museum in New York on June 14, we were shown an exclusive trailer for said movie at HP's Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai. For the sake of those poor participants, do check out the clip right after the break.

Update: Sorry folks, but we've been asked to remove the trailer as it's not ready for public viewing yet, but we'll put up the official version once it's out.

Apple updates Apple TV to iOS 5.1.1 (software 5.0.1)

Apple has pushed out Apple TV software version 5.0.1 (4224), aka iOS 5.1.1 (9B206f). The update applies to both the 2010 Apple TV (720p) and 2012 Apple TV (1080p). No new features are shown following the update, and no new services seem to have been added, so this could well be a bug fix and performance enhancement release.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Jermaine Paul was front and center on "The Voice."

The 33-year-old background singer from Harriman, N.Y., was declared the winner of the NBC singing competition Tuesday.

Paul, who was coached by country singer and "Voice" mentor Blake Shelton, was awarded the show's grand prize of $100,000 and a record deal with Universal after crooning R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" for his final solo performance Monday.

"I just want to say thank you to everybody that supported me from day one," said Paul through tears.

Juliet Simms, the 26-year-old indie rocker from San Francisco who was coached by Cee Lo Green, came in second place. She was followed by Tony Lucca, the 36-year-old former Mouseketeer from Detroit, who was guided by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. Chris Mann, the 30-year-old classical singer from Wichita, Kan., who was shepherded by pop diva Christina Aguilera, rounded out the final four.

Javier Colon won the first season of "The Voice" last year.

Lindsay Lohan on Glee: First-Look Photos!

Lindsay Lohan guest stars on Glee on next week's penultimate episode (May 15). For once, the oft-maligned starlet will be the critic judging people!

Guest-starring as herself, Lohan channels her inner judge (the show business kind) as she sizes up the competition at Nationals on the Season 3 finale.

The McKinley High glee club is vying for top honors after last year's upset and will take on nemesis Vocal Adrenaline in front of a panel of celeb judges.

Lohan, Rex Lee and Perez Hilton will be among them. Take a look:

The casting news was announced in March just after LiLo, who has officially satisfied her probation terms in her DUI case, hosted Saturday Night Live.

"Glee was fun to do!" she Tweeted Monday. "It made me want to live in a world of musicals where people always just burst out into song & dance!"

Despite reports that she was a nightmare on the set of Glee, Lohan's guest role was reportedly well-received by the cast and producers. Can't wait!
